Privacy Statement
Last updated: July 25, 2026
DuckCast is a native macOS application (“DuckCast,” “we,” “us”). This statement explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We tried to keep it short and plain.
The short version: Your databases, files, queries, and results never leave your Mac by default. We do not have a server that sees your data. We only process the minimum information needed to sell, license, update, and support the app.
Your data stays on your device
DuckCast reads and queries your DuckDB, CSV, Parquet, JSON, and Excel files entirely on your own computer. We do not upload, copy, or transmit the contents of your databases, your SQL, or your query results to us or to any third party.
AI features are the one exception, and only when you use them. If you send a message in the AI chat, the prompt you write and the schema or data context you choose to include are sent to the AI provider you have configured in order to generate a response. If you supply your own API key, that request goes directly from your Mac to that provider under their terms. Do not include data in an AI prompt that you are not comfortable sharing with that provider.
What we do collect
- Purchase & licensing. Payments are processed by Paddle, our reseller and Merchant of Record. Paddle collects your name, email, billing details, and payment information to complete the sale and issue invoices. We receive your email address and order details so we can deliver and validate your license key. We never see your full card number.
- License validation. When you activate a license, the app
contacts our licensing service (
api.duckcast.app) with your license key and a device identifier so we can confirm the license is valid and enforce the one-Mac limit. - Software updates. The app checks
updates.duckcast.appfor new versions via Sparkle. This request includes standard technical information such as your app and macOS version. - Support. If you email us, we keep the correspondence so we can help you.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not run third-party advertising or ad trackers in the app.
- We do not collect the contents of your files or queries.
Cookies & the website
Our marketing website (duckcast.app) uses only what is necessary
to function and to run checkout via Paddle. We do not set non-essential
advertising cookies.
Data retention
We keep licensing and purchase records for as long as needed to support your license and to meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations. Support emails are retained until they are no longer needed.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you, or to object to certain processing. To make a request, email [email protected]. For payment data held by Paddle, see Paddle’s own privacy notice.
Changes
We may update this statement from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
